In a devastating accident early this morning, two people lost their lives and 20 others were injured when about 18 coaches of the Howrah-CSMT Express bound for Mumbai derailed near Badabamboo, approximately 80 km from Jamshedpur. The incident occurred at around 3:45 am, prompting an immediate response from rescue teams.
“Two people were killed and 20 injured as 18 coaches of Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed near Barabamboo. Rescue operations are on and an NDRF team is rushing to the spot,” stated West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary, who is currently at the accident site, in an interview with PTI.
Adding to the chaos, a goods train also derailed nearby. Senior Railways official Om Prakash Charan reported the incident but could not confirm if both accidents happened simultaneously.

Among the 18 derailed coaches, there were 16 passenger coaches, one power car, and one pantry car. The Railways’ medical team swiftly administered first aid to the injured, who were subsequently transferred to Chakradharpur for further treatment.
“The exact reason for the derailment is being ascertained,” officials noted.
The derailment has caused significant disruption, leading to the cancellation or diversion of several trains on the affected route. Rescue and relief operations continue as authorities work to clear the site and restore normalcy.
