Tensions in the Middle East intensified on Monday after reports emerged that a drone strike targeted the compound of the United States Embassy in Kuwait. The alleged incident comes amid the escalating confrontation between Iran and Israel, which has already shaken regional stability.
Several videos circulating online appeared to show smoke rising from inside the diplomatic compound. However, officials have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the footage. Authorities in Kuwait have not reported casualties so far, but security around key installations has been significantly tightened.
US Fighter Jet Crashes in Western Kuwait
In a separate but dramatic development, a US Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle crashed in western Kuwait on March 2, 2026. According to initial reports, the pilot successfully ejected before impact and survived with minor injuries.
Unverified videos shared on social media show the aircraft descending rapidly before crashing, followed by plumes of smoke rising from the site. The exact cause of the crash remains unclear. Some reports suggest the aircraft may have been operating amid heightened military activity linked to ongoing regional tensions.
Local civilians were reportedly seen assisting the pilot immediately after the crash. In one widely circulated clip, residents were seen helping the injured pilot into a vehicle while emergency services were contacted.
Kuwait Air Defence Intercepts ‘Hostile Targets’
Earlier the same day, Kuwait’s armed forces announced that air defence units intercepted several “hostile aerial targets” at dawn. A spokesperson for the defence ministry stated that the objects were detected and neutralised within the country’s central operational zone.
Officials confirmed there were no casualties and assured citizens that the military remains on full alert to protect national airspace and strategic facilities.
Iran Escalates Matter at the United Nations
Amid these developments, Iran formally raised the issue at the United Nations. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi sent a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and members of the Security Council, accusing the United States and Israel of carrying out a joint operation that resulted in the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iranian state media reported that Khamenei died during coordinated air and missile strikes on February 28. The operation was allegedly conducted under separate military code names by Washington and Israel. Tehran has declared 40 days of national mourning and announced a week-long public holiday.
In his communication to the UN, Araghchi described the strikes as unlawful and called for urgent diplomatic action to prevent further escalation, warning that continued conflict could destabilise not only the region but also global security.
