In a fiery address to Congress workers in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, launched a blistering assault on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gandhi took aim at Modi’s claims of a direct connection with God, questioning why the BJP faced defeat in Ayodhya during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“They (BJP) have dared us, threatened us, and vandalized our office. Let me tell you, we will unite to dismantle their government just as they destroyed our office. Take it in writing that Congress will contest in Gujarat and defeat Narendra Modi and the BJP like we did in Ayodhya,” Rahul Gandhi asserted, rallying his supporters with confident predictions of electoral success.
Referring to recent clashes outside the Congress headquarters in Ahmedabad, Gandhi highlighted the intensity of political tensions, where stone-pelting incidents left several policemen injured. The confrontation erupted when BJP’s youth wing protested Gandhi’s remarks on Hinduism, illustrating the charged atmosphere surrounding political discourse in the state.
Gandhi didn’t shy away from targeting Modi directly over the BJP’s electoral setbacks, particularly in Faizabad (Ayodhya), Uttar Pradesh. “The people of Ayodhya were enraged when they discovered that not a single local resident was invited to the Ram Mandir’s inauguration,” he stated, emphasizing local sentiments against the BJP.
Further intensifying his critique, Gandhi claimed that Modi had contemplated contesting from Ayodhya but was dissuaded by advisors who foresaw a potential defeat that could jeopardize his political future.
The Congress leader’s speech underscored his party’s determination to secure victory in Gujarat, promising a fresh beginning for the state under Congress leadership. His remarks resonated with party loyalists, setting the stage for an intense electoral battle ahead.
