In a scathing address to the public in Ashok Vihar’s Ramlila Ground, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sharp jab at the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing them of neglecting the Yamuna river’s condition in Delhi. Modi criticized AAP for failing to prioritize the river’s cleaning, claiming the party was more concerned with electoral gains than addressing the severe pollution issue.
“Every citizen of Delhi can see the situation of the Yamuna. Look at their (AAP) shamelessness. They say that cleaning the Yamuna won’t get them votes – will you leave Yamuna like this if it doesn’t get you votes?” PM Modi said, expressing his concern for the environment and the wellbeing of Delhi residents.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came in the wake of ongoing criticism of the Delhi government’s handling of the Yamuna’s worsening condition. The river, which has been plagued by excessive pollution and encroachment, has remained a persistent challenge for authorities. Modi, who has often raised the issue of environmental protection, pointed out that the people of Delhi have been left at the mercy of the “tanker mafia,” a reference to private water suppliers that take advantage of the city’s water scarcity.
“This ‘aapda’ (disaster) has handed over the lives of people of Delhi into the hands of the tanker mafia,” Modi said, further stressing that the current state of the river is a direct consequence of AAP’s indifference to the city’s water crisis.
The Prime Minister’s comments come at a time when Delhi’s water supply remains a key issue for the city’s residents, with frequent reports of water shortages and contamination. The BJP has been increasingly vocal in criticizing the Delhi government for its inability to improve the situation.
