The Maharashtra government, led by the BJP, is gearing up for a major cabinet expansion on December 15. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at 3 PM at the Raj Bhavan in Nagpur.

Around 30 new ministers are expected to be inducted into the cabinet, marking a significant political development ahead of the winter session of the state assembly, which begins on December 16.

The expansion was initially planned for December 14 in Mumbai, but the date was shifted due to a lack of official communication and scheduling considerations. The event was rescheduled for Sunday to accommodate MLAs’ travel plans, ensuring their participation in the ceremony.

Senior Leaders Eye Cabinet Berths

Reports indicate that senior leaders from the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction are lobbying for prominent roles in the cabinet. Intense negotiations over portfolio allocations have added to the anticipation.

Key portfolios such as Urban Development, Tourism, and MSRDC are expected to remain with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, reflecting his influence in the government. However, the fate of the crucial Revenue portfolio remains undecided, fueling speculation among party leaders and MLAs.

Strategic Timing Ahead of Winter Session

The timing of the cabinet expansion is viewed as a strategic move to consolidate support and strengthen the government’s position before the winter session. With nearly three dozen leaders set to join the council of ministers, this reshuffle aims to balance the aspirations of allied factions while preparing for upcoming political challenges in the state.

The development underscores the BJP-led alliance’s efforts to bolster its governance machinery and satisfy its coalition partners, further stabilizing the Maharashtra government.
