Maharashtra’s opposition leader, Vijay Wadettiwar, on September 19, alleged that a proposed mega solar project, initially slated for Nagpur, has been shifted to Gujarat. The project, worth Rs 18,000 crore, could have provided a substantial economic boost to Maharashtra. Wadettiwar blamed “political and bureaucratic apathy” for this shift, drawing parallels with earlier projects like Vedanta-Foxconn and Tata-Airbus, which also moved to Gujarat, a BJP-ruled state.
However, Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant refuted these claims, stating that the renewable energy company involved, ReNew, has reaffirmed its commitment to investing Rs 1 lakh crore in Maharashtra, generating 30,000 job opportunities. Samant emphasized that the project remains in Maharashtra and assured that the state will continue to attract large-scale investments.
The controversy has sparked a political debate, with the Congress accusing the ruling coalition of losing major industrial projects to neighboring states.
