Maharashtra MLC Elections: Eknath Shinde Says, ‘All Independent MLAs From Our Side Have Voted’; BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad Also At Vidhan Bhavan To Cast His Vote

Amid the Maharashtra MLC elections, CM Eknath Shinde expresses confidence as all independent MLAs vote as directed. BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad also casts his vote at Vidhan Bhavan amidst opposition objections.

Amidst the ongoing biennial Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed confidence in the ruling coalition’s success. Speaking to The Indian Express, Shinde stated, “All independent MLAs from our side have voted as they were told. We are confident of winning all nine seats of Mahayuti.”

The election process took a dramatic turn when jailed BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad arrived at Vidhan Bhavan to cast his vote after receiving court permission. However, this move was met with strong objections from the opposition parties, Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT). The Congress, in particular, challenged the court’s decision to allow Gaikwad to vote. In response to the Congress party’s letter, the election officer has sought clarification from the Chief Election Officer of Maharashtra, instructing Gaikwad not to vote until a response is received.

The Legislative Council elections are surrounded by speculations of cross-voting, adding a layer of unpredictability. Both the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and Mahayuti leaders held meetings with their respective MLAs in an effort to consolidate support and prevent defections. The Congress party, amid rumors of potential cross-voting by its MLAs, firmly denied these allegations. “The ruling parties are spreading rumors. There is no truth in it. Not a single MLA from the Congress will indulge in cross-voting,” stated Congress leader and state Opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar.

The atmosphere is charged with tension as the political stakes are high. The Congress is determined to maintain its unity and loyalty among its members, while the ruling coalition is working hard to ensure all its candidates secure their seats. As the elections progress, the situation remains fluid, with both sides vigilantly watching for any signs of unexpected shifts in allegiance.

The outcome of these elections could significantly impact the political landscape of Maharashtra, influencing future strategies and alliances. The focus now shifts to the election results and how they will shape the power dynamics within the state’s political arena.
