In a recent statement, NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule expressed frustration over the lack of progress on the Shakti Bill, a key piece of legislation aimed at enhancing women’s safety. Sule highlighted the historical context of the bill, asserting that despite efforts by previous and current governments, it has yet to be enacted.
Sule recalled that during Uddhav Thackeray’s tenure as Chief Minister, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government had proposed the Shakti Bill, which was subsequently sent to Delhi for consideration. However, she criticized both the Modi-led government and the current NDA administration for their inaction on the bill.
“When Uddhav Thackeray’s Maha Vikas Aghadi government was in power, Anil Deshmukh brought the Shakti Bill and sent it to Delhi. But then there was the Modi government, and they did nothing. Today, there is an NDA government, but unfortunately, they have also done nothing,” Sule said in a statement.
She emphasized the urgent need for the bill’s passage and announced plans to take further action. “We will hold a meeting with the leaders of the INDIA alliance and will meet the Home Minister of this country to request him to bring this bill forward,” Sule added.
The Shakti Bill, proposed with the aim of strengthening legal provisions for women’s safety, has been a focal point of debate and advocacy. Sule’s comments reflect ongoing concerns about the delay in advancing legislative measures critical to women’s protection and justice.
