The Maharashtra government has announced its new Housing Policy 2025, setting an ambitious yet inclusive goal to ensure affordable, environment-friendly housing for all residents in the state by the year 2030.
Under this policy, the government has emphasized the twin pillars of sustainability and inclusivity, aiming to tackle both the housing shortage and the environmental challenges linked to urban growth. The policy outlines plans for the development of green housing units, especially targeting low- and middle-income groups across both urban and rural areas.
A district-wise housing survey will be carried out across Maharashtra by 2026, which will serve as the foundation for tailored housing solutions. This comprehensive data will help in identifying the exact demand, existing housing gaps, and the infrastructural needs of each region.
Once the survey is complete, the government plans to begin phased development of housing projects that are not just affordable, but also climate-resilient, incorporating eco-friendly construction materials, rainwater harvesting, solar power, and energy-efficient design.
