The Zilla Parishad election results across 12 districts of Maharashtra have delivered a decisive mandate in favour of the Mahayuti alliance, which recorded a massive victory by winning 562 seats, while the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) managed to secure only 125 seats. The results underline Mahayuti’s growing dominance in rural Maharashtra and expose serious cracks within the opposition bloc.

Voting for the local body elections was held on February 7, with a voter turnout exceeding 67 per cent, reflecting strong participation at the grassroots level. The polls were conducted soon after the completion of municipal corporation and municipal council elections, making them a crucial political test ahead of future Assembly contests.

Polling took place across districts in the Konkan, Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar divisions, covering Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Parbhani, Dharashiv and Latur. Counting was also completed for 1,462 Panchayat Samiti seats in the same districts.

Alliance-wise Seat Tally

  • Mahayuti (BJP + Shiv Sena–Shinde + NCP–Ajit Pawar): 562 seats

  • Mahavikas Aghadi (Congress + Shiv Sena–UBT + NCP–Sharad Pawar): 125 seats

  • Independents & others: 42 seats

  • MNS: 2 seats

District-Level Highlights

The Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) dominated districts like Ratnagiri and Raigad, while the BJP emerged strongly in Sindhudurg, Solapur, Parbhani and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP recorded a landslide in Pune, turning it into a Mahayuti bastion.

The Congress-led MVA found limited success, with Latur standing out as a rare bright spot where Congress emerged as the single largest party. In Sangli and Kolhapur, MVA parties managed a partial recovery but failed to challenge Mahayuti’s overall dominance.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) won two Zilla Parishad seats, one each in Ratnagiri and Latur, while independent candidates continued to show strong influence in several districts, collectively securing 42 seats.

Clear Political Message

The results send a strong political signal that Mahayuti has consolidated its hold over rural Maharashtra, while the Mahavikas Aghadi remains fragmented and inconsistent on the ground. The sweeping mandate is expected to boost Mahayuti’s confidence ahead of upcoming Assembly elections, while MVA faces mounting pressure to reassess its alliance strategy.
