In a bold accusation, Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has alleged a massive illegal sand mining racket operating across West Bengal. During Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav’s visit to the state, Adhikari claimed that a nexus of TMC-backed police officers and certain bureaucrats is looting natural resources with impunity.
Speaking to the media, Adhikari stated, “I have lodged a serious complaint regarding sand mining in West Bengal. It is a massive scam. TMC-affiliated police personnel and a section of bureaucrats, allegedly under the patronage of CM Mamata Banerjee, are looting sand from rivers across the state. They are openly violating the laws framed by the Ministry of Environment.”
According to Adhikari, the unregulated extraction of sand is not only causing severe environmental degradation but also leading to significant revenue loss for the state exchequer.
Union Minister Bhupender Yadav reportedly took note of the allegations and assured prompt and serious intervention. “Union Minister Bhupender Yadav listened to my concerns and assured me that his department will look into the matter very seriously and take appropriate action as soon as possible,” Adhikari added.
