BSP supremo Mayawati expressed her confidence in the Election Commission’s ability to ensure free and fair elections for the Delhi Assembly polls. She emphasized that the democratic process must remain untouched by the misuse of government machinery, communal propaganda, or other divisive tactics.
Polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly is scheduled for February 5, with votes set to be counted on February 8, as announced by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mayawati welcomed the poll announcement, affirming the BSP’s readiness to contest the elections with vigor and determination. “BSP is contesting this election independently and with full preparation and vigour. I hope the party will definitely perform better in this election,” she stated.
A Call for Ethical Campaigning
The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister made a fervent appeal to the Election Commission to uphold the sanctity of the democratic process. In a series of posts in Hindi, she said, “Elections are the backbone of democracy, and the BSP, a party that stays away from muscle and money power, expects the Election Commission to prevent the elections from being polluted by the misuse of government machinery, communalism, and other vile propaganda to ensure free and fair elections.”
Mayawati’s comments reflect her party’s long-standing commitment to promoting ethical campaigning and fair elections.
Message to Voters
The BSP chief also urged voters to exercise their franchise wisely. “Do not be swayed by any party’s enticing promises. Use your vote wisely to support BSP candidates who are dedicated to public interest and welfare. This is the appeal. The public and national interest lie in this choice,” she said.
BSP’s Independent Stand
The BSP, known for its independent stance and focus on social justice, is contesting the Delhi Assembly polls without alliances. Mayawati’s statement underscores her confidence in the party’s preparations and its ability to make a significant impact in the elections.
As the political landscape in Delhi heats up, Mayawati’s call for ethical practices and voter awareness highlights the importance of maintaining democratic integrity. The BSP leader’s appeal to both the Election Commission and the electorate serves as a reminder of the crucial role fair elections play in upholding democratic values.
