In a blistering attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leadership, Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma on Friday credited the BJP-led government’s short-term planning for preventing waterlogging at the notoriously flood-prone Minto Bridge during recent rains. At the same time, he accused AAP of showcasing selective images to mislead the public and deflect attention from their decade-long failures in civic infrastructure and governance.
“You must have seen that Minto Bridge did not get waterlogged when it rained recently,” said Verma, highlighting the improvement as a direct outcome of new planning and timely drainage work under the Public Works Department. “We have been working on short-term goals that could be achieved in a month's time, and Minto Bridge was a priority.”
Verma also criticized Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi for posting images of waterlogged streets in various parts of Delhi after the rain but deliberately avoiding areas that had shown marked improvement under the BJP’s initiatives. “Atishi showed a lot of photos, but none included Minto Bridge. They only post images from places like Mundka, where no drains have been built in the last 10 years. Isn’t that a failure of the AAP government itself?” he asked.
Verma further alleged that the waterlogging problem in Delhi is not new but was worsened under AAP’s governance due to negligence and lack of basic planning. He said that drains were never constructed in several outer Delhi areas such as Mundka and Nangloi despite repeated public grievances. “We are now working to construct new drains wherever roads exist, but we are paying the price for AAP’s decade-long incompetence,” he added.
Shifting gears to the political corruption front, Verma also took a direct shot at former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who has been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in connection with multiple alleged scams, including the excise policy case.
“Manish Sisodia committed theft — a huge scam in the name of education. The truth is about to come out. Let’s see how many cases he ends up going to jail for,” said Verma, echoing the BJP's long-standing demand for accountability in alleged corruption cases involving senior AAP leaders.
Sisodia, once the face of AAP’s education model, is under investigation for multiple charges including financial irregularities, money laundering, and violation of norms in contract awards. The ACB’s summons is part of a widening probe.
