In a major boost to transport infrastructure, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has approved the establishment of a new sub-regional transport office (sub-RTO) in Mira-Bhayandar, fulfilling a long-pending demand of local residents. The announcement comes ahead of March 1 – ‘Transport Day’, marking the foundation day of the state’s Transport Department.
This will be the 58th sub-RTO in Maharashtra, catering to the growing population and rising vehicle registrations in the rapidly expanding Mira-Bhayandar region. The new office will be constructed on government-acquired land in Uttan, significantly reducing the burden on existing RTOs and providing faster services to residents.
Sarnaik, who has been advocating for this project since 2009, emphasized its importance, stating that the facility will streamline essential transport services like driving licenses, vehicle fitness checks, road tax collection, and pollution control certifications.
Alongside this development, Sarnaik also announced that a new civil court building will be inaugurated on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day, and hinted at the possibility of a police commissioner’s office in the area soon.
Mira-Bhayandar, part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), has seen rapid urbanization over the years. Originally a small municipal council, it has now transformed into a key township with industrial hubs. The addition of the sub-RTO marks another step towards strengthening the city’s administrative and transport infrastructure.
