In a significant development for Gandhinagar, Councillor Miraben Patel from Ward 10 has been appointed as the city’s new mayor. Natwarji Mathurji Thakor has been selected as her deputy mayor. This decision was made during the general assembly board meeting on Tuesday, attended by 43 members of the ruling party.
The assembly session, which aimed to elect the new mayor and deputy mayor, also saw Gaurang Vyas being chosen for the standing committee. The appointments followed extensive discussions and debates, involving key figures such as the Chief Minister, the state BJP in-charge, and the state president.
Initially, Gandhinagar was set to welcome its first female mayor in April. However, the Lok Sabha elections and the swearing-in of the new government delayed the process by two months. The selection, initially scheduled for June 10, was postponed due to the absence of Union Home Minister and Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah, leading to the rescheduling of the general meeting.
Upon her appointment, Mayor Miraben Patel outlined her vision for the next two and a half years. She emphasized the importance of focusing on the newly integrated villages within the city and the municipal corporation, aiming for comprehensive development. Patel’s plan includes addressing the needs of these areas and ensuring they have the necessary infrastructure and services to support their growth.
Miraben Patel’s appointment marks a significant milestone for Gandhinagar, symbolizing the city’s progressive move towards inclusive governance. Her leadership is expected to bring innovative ideas and renewed energy to the local administration, driving development efforts that benefit all residents.
