Sudhir Sacchidanand Mungantiwar was born on July 30, 1962, in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. He holds multiple degrees, including M.Com, LL.B, M.Phil, DBM, and BJ, showcasing his extensive academic background.
Political Career
Sudhir Mungantiwar began his political journey at 17, serving as the Secretary of the Chaatrasangh at Sardar Patel Mahavidyalaya in 1979. His early involvement with the BJP started in 1981, eventually becoming the Chandrapur district president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJUM). His legislative career began in 1995 when he was elected as an MLA from Chandrapur. Over the years, he has been re-elected multiple times, demonstrating his stronghold in the region. He is currently an MLA from the Ballarpur constituency.

Under Mungantiwar’s leadership, the Finance and Forest departments received ISO 9001:2015 certification, the first of its kind for any elected officials’ office in India. He initiated a massive plantation drive, aiming to plant 50 crore saplings by 2019, which earned a place in the Limca Book of Records for planting 2.81 crore saplings in a single day. He also established the Maharashtra State Zoo Authority, Nature Tourism Board, and other conservation initiatives.

Mungantiwar’s notable initiatives include renaming Nagpur University to Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University and Amravati University to Sant Gadgebaba Amravati University. Additionally, he started the toothpick project in Pombhurna, generating employment and promoting women empowerment in the region.
Heavy rains in Chandrapur district caused a dam to burst in Chichpalli, leading to significant damage for the residents of Chichpalli and Pimpalkhut. During a visit to assess the flood damage and interact with the affected citizens, it was observed that many homes were severely damaged, food grains were spoiled, and clothes and other belongings were washed away. Assurance was given that help would reach every affected person. Cheques were distributed to those who lost livestock in the flood, and immediate financial assistance was deposited into the citizens’ bank accounts.

He described harrowing incidents from the riots, including families being separated and a brother and sister being stripped naked and forced to lie on a cot. These remarks have drawn significant attention and criticism, adding to the ongoing political tensions.
Sudhir Mungantiwar stirred controversy by expressing his disapproval of the BJP’s alliances with CM Eknath Shinde and Dy CM Ajit Pawar.
