Mumbai Downgraded To Yellow Alert, But Heavy Rains Predicted Across Maharashtra

The ongoing heavy rainfall and resulting waterlogging have raised concerns about the safety and mobility of residents in affected areas. The IMD's alerts and forecasts underscore the need for vigilance

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, and several parts of Maharashtra, warning of intense rainfall in the coming days. Gujarat, in particular, faces a flash flood warning, with several regions already inundated due to the heavy downpour.

In Maharashtra, the Konkan, Western Maharashtra, and Madhya Maharashtra regions are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 26. While Mumbai’s alert level has been downgraded to yellow, the IMD continues to predict significant rainfall across the state. Districts including Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Nandurbar, and Nashik are likely to receive substantial rainfall.

The Konkan region, particularly Palghar, Raigad, and Nashik, has been lashed by continuous rains over the past few days, leading to waterlogging in several areas. Mumbai has also been witnessing intermittent showers.

On Sunday, August 25, Palghar, Raigad, and Satara recorded the highest rainfall in Maharashtra, followed by Mumbai, Ratnagiri, and Nashik. According to IMD data, Palghar’s Dahanu recorded 87.4 mm of rainfall, Raigad received 74.4 mm, and Satara’s Mahabaleshwar recorded 61 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. Ratnagiri saw 22.4 mm, Mumbai 19.2 mm, Kolhapur 18 mm, and Nashik 15 mm during the same period.

The ongoing heavy rainfall and resulting waterlogging have raised concerns about the safety and mobility of residents in affected areas. The IMD’s alerts and forecasts underscore the need for vigilance and preparedness as the monsoon continues to bring challenging weather conditions across these regions.
