Mumbai’s lifeline, the Mumbai Local, came to an unexpected halt on the first day of Diwali, leaving thousands of commuters stranded in a massive service disruption on the Western Railway line. According to TV9 Marathi, the breakdown was caused by an engine failure near Kelve Road station, which brought trains to a standstill and led to widespread delays on one of the busiest railway corridors in the country.
The issue began early in the morning when a local train experienced a technical fault near Kelve Road, disrupting both local and express services across the Western line. The unexpected halt affected peak-hour commuters as well as holiday travelers, many of whom were heading out for Diwali celebrations. With trains backed up along the line, the disruption led to overcrowded platforms and mounting frustrations among passengers.
