Mumbai has been grappling with extreme weather conditions over the past 48 hours, as relentless rainfall has lashed the city, disrupting daily life and causing waterlogging in various areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has extended the orange alert for heavy rainfall in Mumbai for today, indicating the continuation of adverse weather.
After two days of intense downpour, the city woke up to overcast skies and occasional rain showers. According to the IMD, very heavy rainfall is expected to hit parts of South and Central Mumbai, as well as several suburbs, starting from 10 a.m. today. The showers are likely to persist until the afternoon, with temperatures hovering between 23°C and 31°C. The city will remain wet and cloudy throughout the day, with a forecast for continued rainfall until September 29.
The IMD has also issued weather alerts for other regions in Maharashtra. A red alert has been issued for Nashik, while Palghar, Pune, Nandurbar, and Dhule are under an orange alert. Most other cities in the state have been placed under a yellow alert, warning residents of potential disruptions due to the weather.
The extended orange alert for Mumbai comes after the city experienced significant disruptions on Thursday, with heavy rainfall leading to flooded streets and traffic congestion. Mumbai’s local train network, often referred to as the city’s lifeline, experienced temporary delays but managed to resume normal operations.
Looking ahead, the weather forecast suggests a continuation of rainy conditions in Mumbai as September draws to a close. Light to moderate rainfall is expected on September 30, while heavier showers are forecasted for October 1 and 2. During this period, temperatures are predicted to range from 26°C to 32°C, signaling a wet start to the new month.
Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the city continues to experience heavy rainfall and unpredictable weather conditions.
