A series of powerful explosions jolted Venezuela’s capital Caracas in the early hours of Saturday, sending residents rushing out of their homes in fear and plunging parts of the city into darkness. At least seven blasts were reported within a short span, with thick smoke rising from the affected area, according to visuals that quickly spread across social media platforms.

The explosions reportedly occurred close to a key military installation, intensifying speculation over the nature of the incident. Residents in southern Caracas experienced a sudden power outage soon after the blasts, adding to the chaos and confusion. Despite the scale of the explosions, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries so far.

Local media outlets reported heightened security activity following the incident, with helicopters seen hovering over several neighbourhoods of the capital. Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of damage caused, and emergency teams were reportedly deployed to assess the situation on the ground.

The Venezuelan government has not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the explosions. However, state-linked sources have informally pointed fingers at the United States, alleging foreign involvement. Washington has not responded to these claims, and no independent confirmation has emerged to support the accusation.

The incident comes at a sensitive time in US–Venezuela relations. In recent days, US President Donald Trump claimed American forces had conducted operations targeting drug trafficking networks on Venezuelan soil. While Caracas has expressed willingness to engage in talks with Washington on combating narcotics trade, President Nicolás Maduro has simultaneously accused the US of pursuing regime change and eyeing Venezuela’s vast oil reserves through sustained pressure.
