In a shocking incident, Sachin Kurmi, a prominent leader of the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was brutally killed in the Byculla area in the early hours of Saturday. The attack, carried out by 2-3 unidentified assailants, took place behind the MHADA colony, leaving the community and political circles stunned.
Kurmi, who served as the taluka president for the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the NCP, was reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon around 12:30 am. According to police sources, the assailants fled the scene after the attack, leaving Kurmi gravely injured.
Upon receiving an emergency call, police officers arrived promptly at the scene and found Kurmi in a critical condition. He was immediately rushed to JJ Hospital in a police vehicle. However, despite the rapid response, doctors declared him dead on arrival, a police official confirmed.
“A postmortem is currently being conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” authorities said, adding that an official investigation has been launched. A case has been registered under appropriate sections, and a thorough probe into the murder is underway.
As news of Kurmi’s death spread, political leaders and NCP supporters have expressed their shock and grief. The incident has raised concerns about political violence in Mumbai, as the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP has been at the center of Maharashtra’s political landscape in recent months.
The police are working to identify the suspects and are scanning CCTV footage from the area. Initial reports suggest the motive behind the murder is still unclear, and authorities have not ruled out any possibilities.
