Shiv Sena (UBT) President Uddhav Thackeray addressed the ongoing election campaign on Thursday, asserting that there is no need for him to campaign in Mahim, a key assembly segment currently contested by his estranged cousin Raj Thackeray’s son, Amit, and Shiv Sena (BJP ally) candidate Sadanand Sarvankar.
Thackeray, who remains confident of his party’s support in the region, emphasized that Mahim is part of his constituency, indicating that his influence is strong enough for him not to engage in direct campaigning there. “I don’t need to campaign in Mahim. It is my constituency,” he told reporters, reinforcing his connection with the area.
Further elaborating on his campaign strategy, Thackeray announced that his party had approached authorities to seek permission for a rally at the iconic Shivaji Park in Dadar on November 17. The park, located in the Mahim assembly segment, will host a major event as part of his outreach to Mumbai voters. Thackeray mentioned the recent MVA rally at BKC on November 6 and emphasized his trust in Mumbaikars. “I have faith in Mumbaikars (that they will back my party),” he said.
While some questioned the absence of his direct campaign in Mahim, Thackeray explained that he could not attend every constituency personally due to practical challenges. “Even if I address four-five rallies every day, I cannot complete all the constituencies. Looking at the travel time and factors like the scorching sun, I don’t think holding more than four rallies in a day is possible,” he added.
This statement highlights the complex dynamics of the ongoing election battle, as Thackeray balances his commitments and relies on his party’s grassroots support to maintain influence in key areas like Mahim.
