Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stirred controversy in the Assembly by questioning the Centre’s intent and ability to reclaim Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Taking a direct jab at External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar’s recent remarks on bringing PoK back under India’s control, Abdullah challenged the government’s resolve and highlighted China’s occupation of parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking in the Assembly, Abdullah said, “The Foreign Minister has said that they will bring back the portion of Kashmir controlled by Pakistan. Did we ever stop them? If they can bring it back, they should do it now.”
He further criticized the government’s selective focus on PoK while seemingly ignoring China’s control over parts of Ladakh. “One portion is with Pakistan, but another portion is with China—why doesn’t anyone talk about that?” he asked.
Abdullah’s remarks are expected to ignite fresh political debate over the Modi government’s approach to territorial disputes. His statement comes amid growing tensions between India and both its western and northern neighbors.
