Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Monday made a significant statement on the role of opposition leaders in foreign delegations, saying their participation strengthens India’s image on the global stage, regardless of domestic political rivalries.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Raut emphasized the importance of unity in international representation, stating, "The point is that whether it’s Salman Khurshid or Shashi Tharoor, when they are part of a delegation abroad, they represent the country and the government—that’s how I see it." His remarks came amid debates over involving opposition MPs in diplomatic visits and forums.
Raut underscored that such participation isn't new and has been embraced even by the ruling BJP when necessary. "Even the current BJP government has felt the need to include prominent opposition figures in its delegations abroad so that the government's stance can be presented comprehensively to the international community," he noted.
