In a rare diplomatic episode, Pakistan’s ambassador to Turkmenistan, KK Ahsan Wagan, was denied entry into the United States and deported from Los Angeles, despite holding a valid visa and all legal travel documents.
According to The News, Wagan was traveling to Los Angeles for a vacation when US immigration authorities stopped him at the airport. Sources revealed that the envoy was deported due to “controversial visa references”, but US officials have not disclosed the specific concerns leading to this action.
Confirming the incident, a Pakistani Foreign Ministry official stated, “Ambassador KK Wagan was deported from the US due to an immigration objection.”
Following his deportation, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch were informed, and the Pakistani consulate in Los Angeles has been directed to investigate the matter. Reports suggest that Wagan may be called back to Islamabad for further explanation.
A veteran diplomat, Wagan has served in key positions within Pakistan’s foreign service, including as Deputy Consul General at the Pakistani Consulate in Los Angeles and as Second Secretary at the Pakistani Embassy in Kathmandu.
