Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the East Asia Summit in Vientiane, Laos, on Friday, stressed that ongoing global conflicts are disproportionately affecting nations in the Global South. He emphasized the need for peace, stability, and respect for international laws.

“The conflicts happening around the world are most detrimental to the Global South. Countries from West Asia to Eurasia are seeking a quick return to peace and stability. As a representative of the land of Buddha, I believe this is not an era for war. Problems cannot be solved through violence. Sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international laws must be respected. Dialogue and diplomacy should take precedence,” said PM Modi.

The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to contributing toward global peace, particularly in conflict zones, and called for humanitarian approaches to resolving international disputes.

“The ongoing global conflicts are causing severe damage to the Global South. Whether it’s Eurasia or West Asia, peace and stability must be restored promptly,” said PM Modi. “India stands firm in supporting humanitarian values, and solutions should emerge from dialogue, not the battlefield.”

He further called for the protection of maritime freedom under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and highlighted the need for stability in the Indo-Pacific.
