On the occasion of Good Governance Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 100th birth anniversary. Describing Vajpayee as the architect of India’s transition into the 21st century, PM Modi penned an article detailing his predecessor’s monumental contributions to the nation’s progress.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his admiration for Vajpayee’s visionary leadership. “Respectful tributes to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji on his 100th birth anniversary. He dedicated his life to building a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant India. His vision and mission will continue to give strength to the resolve for a developed India,” wrote Modi.
In another post, the Prime Minister highlighted Vajpayee’s role in leading India through a period of political instability when he assumed office in 1998. Modi credited Vajpayee’s government with making technology accessible to the masses and initiating transformational projects such as the Golden Quadrilateral, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, and the push for the Delhi Metro.
PM Modi also emphasized Vajpayee’s pivotal role in cementing India’s status as a nuclear power with the successful Pokhran nuclear tests. “Under his leadership, India showcased unparalleled strength and determination to the world,” Modi remarked.
Vajpayee’s contributions extended beyond infrastructure and defense. Modi recalled his cultural legacy, highlighting that Vajpayee was the first Indian leader to address the United Nations General Assembly in Hindi, showcasing India’s linguistic heritage on a global platform.
Addressing the challenges Vajpayee faced, PM Modi condemned Congress for its hostility toward the former leader. “Despite a career spent largely in the Opposition benches, Vajpayee never harbored bitterness toward anyone, even when the Congress stooped so low as to call him a traitor,” Modi noted.
