The sacred city of Prayagraj came alive today as the world’s largest religious gathering, the Maha Kumbh Mela, commenced with great fervor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the event as a celebration of India’s timeless spiritual heritage, faith, and harmony.

PM Modi extended heartfelt wishes to millions of pilgrims and tourists converging at the holy Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. In a message shared on social media, the Prime Minister expressed his joy, stating, “A very special day for crores of people who cherish Bharatiya values and culture! Maha Kumbh 2025 commences in Prayagraj, bringing together countless people in a sacred confluence of faith, devotion, and culture. Wishing all pilgrims and tourists a wonderful stay.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also shared his blessings, marking the day as a moment of spiritual and cultural pride. “Greetings on Paush Purnima. The world’s largest spiritual and cultural gathering, ‘Mahakumbh,’ begins today. May Maa Ganga fulfill all your wishes. Sanatan Pride—Maha Kumbh Festival,” said the Chief Minister, as he welcomed revered saints, Kalpvasis, and devotees to this grand confluence of faith and modernity.

A Sacred Beginning

The Maha Kumbh began with thousands of devotees taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam on Paush Purnima, a day considered highly auspicious in Hindu tradition. This year’s Mahakumbh holds special significance as it coincides with a rare celestial alignment that occurs once in 144 years. The event will span 45 days, concluding on February 26, and is expected to draw over 45 crore devotees from across the globe.
