Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm reception with Sanskrit chants from the Indian community upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday. This marks the second leg of his three-nation tour, where he will participate in the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit scheduled for November 18 and 19.
Expressing his appreciation, PM Modi shared on X (formerly Twitter), “Deeply touched by the warm and lively welcome from the Indian community upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro. Their energy reflects the affection that binds us across continents.”
In another post, Modi conveyed his anticipation for the summit deliberations and bilateral engagements, stating, “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to take part in the G20 Summit. I look forward to the Summit deliberations and fruitful talks with various world leaders.” He also shared images of the grand reception at the airport.
As part of the G20 Troika alongside Brazil and South Africa, PM Modi’s presence at the summit underscores India’s significant role in shaping global discussions. Key leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden, will also attend the event, making it a critical platform for international dialogue.
Strengthening Ties Across Continents
The Prime Minister’s visit to Brazil is a continuation of India’s active engagement in global governance, especially after India’s successful presidency last year, which highlighted milestones such as the African Union’s inclusion as a permanent G20 member and consensus-building amid divisions over the Ukraine conflict.
Modi’s Brazil visit will be followed by a historic trip to Guyana from November 19 to 21 at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. This visit, the first by an Indian prime minister to Guyana in over 50 years, aims to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
Before embarking on his trip, Modi emphasized the importance of continuity and collaboration, stating, “This year, Brazil has built upon India’s legacy. I look forward to meaningful discussions in keeping with our vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.”
The Prime Minister’s engagements reflect India’s commitment to fostering global unity, advancing development agendas, and strengthening ties with its diaspora and international partners.
