
Early Life and Education
Amin Amir Ali Patel was born on January 13, 1963, in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He completed his early education at Dawoodbhoy Fazalbhoy High School, Mumbai, graduating in 1978. Coming from the Khoja Ismaili Muslim community, he pursued a career in business before entering politics.
Political Career
Amin Patel is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) and has been serving as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly since 2009. He represents the Mumbadevi constituency in Mumbai and has successfully retained his seat in three consecutive elections (2009, 2014, and 2019). His commitment to his constituency has made him a prominent figure in the Maharashtra political landscape. He is also the Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislative Party in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Major Achievements
Congress MLA Amin Patel has been named the best performing legislator in Mumbai by the Praja Foundation, earning a top score of 82.80%. The foundation’s report card, which evaluates MLAs based on their legislative performance, ranked Patel first among 29 legislators, with Sunil Prabhu of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Manisha Chaudhary of BJP following in second and third place. Patel is one of only two MLAs to score above 80% in the evaluation period from the winter sessions of 2021 to 2022.
Key Political Initiatives and Contributions
Congress MLA Amin Patel has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to allocate Rs 225 crore for urgent repairs of 16,000 cessed buildings and 66 PMGP buildings in Mumbai. Patel’s request includes Rs 200 crore for cessed buildings and Rs 25 crore for PMGP structures, citing their dilapidated condition and the risk of further accidents.
MLA Amin Patel has requested Minister Kiren Rijuju to restart the Coaching and Guidance Centre at Haj House, which has been instrumental in training minority students for IAS exams. The centre, which hasn’t admitted new students since 2023, has helped 25 students clear the UPSC exams. Patel argues that resuming the centre will support minority students in pursuing civil service careers.
