
Early Life and Education
Dilip Datta Walse was born on October 30, 1956, in Ambegaon. He pursued his LL.M. from Government Law College, Mumbai. He belongs to a prominent Maratha family, with his father, Dattatray Govindrao Walse Patil, being a former MLA from the Indian National Congress (INC) (Ajit Pawar).
Political Career
Dilip Walse Patil embarked on his political journey in 1990, successfully contesting the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election from the Ambegaon constituency on the INC ticket. He has retained this seat in every election since then, showcasing his stronghold in the region. In 1999, when Sharad Pawar formed the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) after splitting from the INC, Dilip Walse Patil joined him and became a key member of the NCP.
Over the years, Walse Patil has held various significant portfolios in the Maharashtra government, including Finance and Planning, Energy, Higher and Technical Education, and Medical Education. He also served as the Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 2009 to 2014, a period marked by his firm and fair handling of legislative proceedings.
In April 2021, following the resignation of Anil Deshmukh amid corruption allegations, Walse Patil was appointed as the Home Minister of Maharashtra, a position he held until 2022.
Minister of Co-operation (Current Position): Since July 2023, Dilip Walse Patil serves as the Co-operation Minister in the Maharashtra government .
Major Achievements
Walse Patil’s tenure as Home Minister was notable for maintaining law and order in Maharashtra during a politically turbulent time. His efforts in uplifting the education system in his constituency, including the establishment of new colleges and improving educational standards, are highly regarded.
He has also played a significant role in the cooperative sugar industry, having served as the president of the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF) before resigning in December 2020.

Promises and Future Commitments
During a visit to the tribal area of Shinoli, a minister engaged with villagers to discuss water-related issues. Officials from the Water Resources Department provided information on the Kalamjai Upsa Irrigation Scheme, as well as the Borghar and Phulwade Upsa Irrigation Schemes. Villagers voiced their concerns and demands regarding water, and the minister directed the department officials to take appropriate action in response to these issues.
The Ambegaon-Shirur area has benefited significantly from irrigation, transforming it into a well-watered region. The enhanced irrigation facilities have boosted agricultural productivity and improved water availability for the local communities.
An earnest initiative is underway to provide police officers and staff with improved housing facilities and modernized police stations, ensuring better support for those who protect law and order.
A ministerial initiative has secured employment opportunities for Maharashtra’s youth in Germany through a memorandum of understanding with the state of Baden-Wuttenburg. In the first phase, around 10,000 young people will receive free German language and residential training to enhance their skills. The agreement covers various job sectors, including healthcare, hospitality, construction, and more, offering diverse employment prospects in Germany.
