    Jai Parkash Saharan, born on December 2, 1954, in Dubbal village, Kaithal district, Haryana, is a seasoned politician affiliated with the Indian National Congress (INC). Over his extensive career, he has held multiple parliamentary positions and ministerial roles, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to public service.

    Jai Parkash pursued his early education at Dayal Singh College in Karnal, Haryana. He is married to Smt. Savitri Devi Saharan, and the couple has one son and one daughter.

    Political Career

    Embarking on his political journey in the mid-1980s, Parkash initially served as the President of the Lok Dal in Jind district from 1984 to 1987. He then became the President of Yuva Lok Dal, Haryana, from 1987 to 1990. His parliamentary career commenced with his election to the 9th Lok Sabha in 1989, representing the Hisar constituency. During this tenure, he was appointed as the Union Deputy Minister for Petroleum, Chemicals, and Communications in the Chandra Shekhar government from November 1990 to June 1991.

    Parkash was re-elected to the 11th Lok Sabha in 1996 and the 14th Lok Sabha in 2004, continuing to represent Hisar. Between 2000 and 2004, he also served as a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly and was the Chief Whip of the Congress Legislature Party in Haryana.

    In the 2024 general elections, Parkash made a significant comeback by winning the Hisar seat, defeating his closest rival, Ranjit Singh Chautala of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), by a margin of 63,381 votes.

He has served as a member of the Committee on Papers Laid on the Table and the Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers.
