The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), under the leadership of Prakash Ambedkar, has released its fifth list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, unveiling 16 names in a strategic move to strengthen its presence across the state. The announcement was made on Monday evening, showcasing the party’s determination to contest fiercely in various constituencies.
Among the highlighted candidates are seven nominees from the Mumbai suburbs, including Airoli in Navi Mumbai, Jogeshwari East, Dindoshi, Malad, Andheri East, Ghatkopar West, Ghatkopar East, and Chembur. This focused approach aims to tap into the suburban vote bank, which is critical in the upcoming elections.
Notably, the VBA has chosen Mangaldas Nikalje to represent Baramati, a significant constituency currently held by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Should Pawar decide to seek re-election, he will face a formidable challenge from Nikalje, potentially intensifying the competition in this high-stakes battle.
The VBA has positioned itself as an independent contender in these elections, having previously been part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition. However, the party opted out after the recent Lok Sabha polls when seat-sharing negotiations with the MVA proved unsuccessful. This decision marks a new chapter for the VBA as it seeks to consolidate its base and assert its political identity in Maharashtra.
As the political landscape in Maharashtra continues to evolve, the VBA’s early candidate announcements indicate its commitment to contesting aggressively in the assembly elections, setting the stage for a competitive electoral battle ahead.
