'95 Defeats And Still ‘Not Worried’: BJP Uses Rahul Gandhi’s Own Words To Target Him In Fresh Attack

The BJP launched a sharp counteroffensive against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, taking a dig at his electoral track record and accusing him of diverting attention from his party’s repeated setbacks. Citing recent media reports where Rahul Gandhi reportedly said he was “not worried” about the Congress’ poor performance in the Bihar Assembly elections, BJP leaders used the remark to raise questions about his leadership and political approach.

Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s National Information and Technology Department, highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s long list of poll defeats over the past two decades. In a post on X, Malviya said, “95 Defeats For Rahul Gandhi… five short of a century,” calling him a “9-to-5 blame-game politician” and alleging that his attacks on institutions were nothing but distraction tactics. He also referred to Gandhi as a “silver-spoon scion.”

Malviya pointed to growing internal disagreements in the Bihar Congress over Rahul Gandhi’s claims of major lapses in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He drew attention to comments by senior Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad, who publicly dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s allegations. According to Malviya, Ahmad had questioned the credibility of Gandhi’s claim by asking: “If names of 65 lakh voters were allegedly struck off, why did even 65 people not protest?”

Malviya further noted that Ahmad had also asked why not a single member from Congress, RJD, or Communist parties filed an objection during the SIR process. Using this, the BJP leader alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s campaign was aimed at “protecting illegal infiltrators,” including Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Muslims.

Shifting focus to West Bengal, Malviya urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to “take a cue” from Shakeel Ahmad and drop her opposition to the SIR exercise, which he said was essential to weed out ineligible voters — including the deceased, underage, non-citizens, and duplicate entries. He alleged that her resistance showed she wanted “fake voters and illegal Bangladeshi Muslims and Rohingyas” to remain on the rolls to secure electoral gains.

Malviya also accused TMC workers of pressuring Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to misuse enumeration forms. He warned both citizens and officials against participating in illegal enrollment during the SIR process, cautioning that anyone submitting fake documents could face one year in jail, and BLOs found involved would face investigation.
