“Warmest birthday wishes to Rashtrapati Ji. Her life and leadership continue to inspire crores of people across the country,” PM Modi wrote. “She has always worked to empower the poor and downtrodden. May she be blessed with a long and healthy life in service of the people.”

President Murmu, born on June 20, 1958, in the tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, has risen through formidable odds to become one of the most respected constitutional leaders in Indian history. Her journey from a modest Santhali family to the highest office in the country stands as a powerful symbol of India’s democratic depth and the strength of its social fabric.

Murmu’s early life was shaped by struggle and resilience. After completing her education in Bhubaneswar, where she became the first woman from her village to earn a college degree, she began her professional journey in the Odisha government. Later, she taught as an honorary educator before entering active politics.

Her political ascent began with her election as MLA from Rairangpur in 2000. Over the next decade, she served in key ministerial roles in Odisha and was later honored with the Pandit Nilkanth Das Best Legislator Award in 2007 for her service and sincerity.

In 2015, Murmu made history as the first tribal woman to be appointed Governor of Jharkhand. Her tenure was marked by a firm commitment to constitutional values, tribal rights, and higher education reforms in the state’s university systems.

Her elevation as the 15th President of India in July 2022 marked a historic moment for the country. As President, she has consistently advocated for the upliftment of marginalized communities, environmental sustainability, and greater representation of women in leadership roles.
