Aaditya Thackeray Slams CM Fadnavis' Davos Visit, Calls It "An Eyewash"

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over his participation in the World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos, Switzerland. Thackeray accused the CM of wasting public money on signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) that, according to him, could have been finalized in India itself.

In a press conference held at Matoshree, Aaditya Thackeray criticized the government for allegedly prioritizing MoUs with local companies, primarily from the real estate sector, and questioned the necessity of spending crores on an international visit.

“They signed 54 MoUs, but most of these were with Indian companies, including builders like Hiranandani. There should be a balance between all companies, especially when the government boasts about attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). What was the purpose of going to Davos if the focus was on local collaborations? This entire exercise was an eyewash,” Thackeray alleged.

Aaditya Questions Ministers' Absence at Davos

Thackeray also questioned the absence of key ministers during the visit, specifically mentioning that the Urban Development Minister and Industries Minister Uday Samant were not part of the delegation. "Why were key ministers missing if this was truly about Maharashtra's development? This government has no clear vision or planning," he added.

CM Fadnavis Defends Investments

The criticism from Aaditya Thackeray came a day after CM Fadnavis announced that Maharashtra had signed 54 MoUs worth a staggering ₹15.75 lakh crore, claiming that nearly 98% of the investments would come through FDI. He also highlighted that these agreements could create 16 lakh jobs in the state.

Addressing the media, CM Fadnavis said, "These investments are historic and will position Maharashtra as a global hub for industries. Seven strategic partnerships and MoUs with mega companies are a testament to the state’s potential."

Congress Joins Criticism, Demands Transparency

The Congress party joined the fray, demanding a white paper on the signed MoUs. Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole said, "The people of Maharashtra deserve to know the specifics of these investments. The government should publish a detailed report to ensure transparency and accountability."
