After CJI Shoe Attack, Tirunelveli Court In Turmoil As Theft Accused Throws Sandal At Magistrate

Just a day after a shocking shoe-throwing attempt at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai in New Delhi, another courtroom in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district witnessed similar chaos. Dharmendra Singh, an accused from Uttar Pradesh facing theft charges, allegedly flung his sandal at Judicial Magistrate Arun Kumaran during a hearing at the Cheranmahadevi court on Tuesday.

As per News18, Singh had been arrested a few months ago for allegedly stealing a donation box from a local temple. During the latest hearing, he appeared in court without a lawyer. Seeing this, Magistrate Kumaran instructed officials to appoint a free legal aid counsel and expedite the case.

However, when the judge adjourned the matter to next month, Singh reportedly lost his temper and hurled both sandals toward the magistrate in quick succession. Eyewitnesses said the sudden act stunned everyone in the courtroom and created brief chaos before police officers restrained the accused.

Authorities have not yet filed a separate complaint regarding the sandal-throwing incident, but an internal inquiry has been initiated. Singh was immediately taken back to jail under tight security.
