A residential building collapsed in Seelampur on Saturday, leaving at least two people dead and several others feared trapped under the rubble. The narrow lanes of the densely populated area have severely hampered rescue operations, forcing emergency responders to clear debris manually.
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, who visited the site, called it a tragic and challenging situation. “The NDRF team is also present here, but this alley is so narrow that there is no other option but to remove the debris by hand. Carrying out relief work here is very difficult,” Mishra said.
He added that efforts were being made on a war footing to clear the area and rescue any survivors. “There is a fear that some people are trapped in the debris. We are trying to ensure they can be safely rescued. This is a very tragic incident, and so far, there have been reports of 2 deaths,” he told reporters.
Locals were among the first to respond after the multi-storey structure collapsed earlier in the day. Authorities rushed personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, and local police, but the congested location has posed a major obstacle to deploying heavy machinery.
