In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Ameet Bhaskar Satam, the three-term MLA from Andheri West, has been appointed President of the Mumbai BJP unit. The announcement was made by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state BJP chief Ravindra Chavan.
CM Fadnavis congratulated Satam on social media, writing, “Congratulations to my colleague MLA Ameet Satam for being appointed as the BJP Mumbai President. Wishing him all the best for his future endeavours!”
At 49, Satam is recognized as a dynamic and civic-focused leader. Born on August 15, 1976, in Mumbai, he holds a BA in Political Science and Sociology from Mumbai University and an MMS (Personnel) from the Mahatma Gandhi Mission Institute. Before his political career, he worked as an HR specialist at Tata Teleservices and credits spiritual guidance from Sri Sri Ravi Shankar for shaping his leadership approach.
Since his first victory during the 2014 “Modi wave,” Satam has won three consecutive elections, including the 2019 and 2024 polls, defeating Congress leader Ashok Jadhav with significant margins. Known for his focus on urban development, he has spearheaded the reconstruction of Gokhale Bridge, championed transparency in civic works, and reclaimed an 8-acre Juhu plot for a proposed district-level sports facility.
Satam has been vocal about sanitation and environmental challenges in Mumbai, urging the BMC to expedite beach cleaning at Juhu and Versova during monsoons. He has also advocated for systemic reforms in waste management, road maintenance, and infrastructure planning through utility corridors.
Recently, Satam has highlighted issues regarding illegal Bangladeshi immigration, calling for detention centers and fast-track courts to ensure swift legal action, a move that sparked public debate. He has also cautioned against political polarization in Mumbai, emphasizing the need to safeguard the city’s identity amid rapid urban development.
