Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has finally been allotted a government bungalow nearly a year after vacating his official residence as Delhi Chief Minister. The Central government has allocated 95, Lodhi Estate, a Type-VII bungalow and one of the largest categories of government residential accommodations, to Kejriwal.
The bungalow was previously occupied by Iqbal Singh Lalpura, former IPS officer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader. The allotment follows proceedings in the Delhi High Court, where Kejriwal had sought suitable accommodation in his capacity as the national president of a recognized political party.
Initially, AAP had requested 35, Lodhi Estate, the former residence of BSP chief Mayawati, which was vacated in May 2025. However, the bungalow had already been allotted in July to Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.
The High Court had repeatedly expressed concern over delays in allotment. On September 16, the court criticized the Centre for stalling the process, and by September 25, the government assured the court that a suitable residential accommodation would be allotted to Kejriwal within ten days.
Type-VII bungalows, such as Kejriwal’s new residence, feature four bedrooms, three servant quarters, large lawns, a garage, and space for an office, covering approximately 5,000 square feet. 95, Lodhi Estate includes two side lawns and a dedicated office, making it a well-equipped official residence.
Kejriwal’s new neighbors will include Congress leader Shashi Tharoor at bungalow 97, Army officials at bungalows 94 and 96, and RJD’s Misa Bharati and Congress’s Priyanka Gandhi at nearby bungalows 82 and 81, respectively.
Since resigning as Delhi Chief Minister on September 17, 2024, Kejriwal had been without a permanent government residence. After vacating 6, Flagstaff Road on November 4, he temporarily stayed at the home of AAP Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, Ashok Mittal, at 5, Ferozeshah Road.
