Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi took a sharp dig at the Opposition on Friday, ridiculing their long-standing claims of tampered Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Modi asserted that the election results on June 4 disproved all such allegations, showcasing the integrity of both the voting machines and the electoral process, effectively silencing their complaints.

Addressing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary meeting, Modi recounted his reaction to the election results. "When the results were coming out on 4th June, I was busy with work. Phone calls started coming in later. I asked someone, numbers are fine, tell me EVM zinda hai ki mar gaya (tell me if the EVM is alive or dead). These people (Opposition) had decided to ensure that people stop believing in democracy and the democratic process of India. They continuously abused EVM," Modi said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Modi criticized the INDIA bloc leaders, suggesting they expected the opposition to decry the EVMs following their defeat. "I thought they would take out the funeral procession of the EVM and would harp about the machine over their loss. But the results made them shut their mouths," he added.

Despite the victory, Modi speculated that accusations against EVMs might resurface in future elections. "I hope I won't hear about EVM for 5 years. But when we enter 2029, perhaps they will again harp about EVM?The country will never forgive them," he remarked.

The NDA meeting also saw Modi being unanimously elected as the leader of the alliance and the Lok Sabha, setting the stage for his third term as Prime Minister. Modi is scheduled to take the oath of office on Sunday at 6 PM.

This decisive electoral win not only reaffirms Modi's leadership but also bolsters the credibility of India's electoral system, amidst recurrent criticisms from the opposition.
