Bihar is gearing up for the crucial 2025 Assembly elections, with the BJP and JDU reportedly preparing to contest an equal number of seats. India Today Sources indicate that the two NDA partners are in discussions over the allocation of 205 seats, with the final seat-sharing formula yet to be confirmed.
The remaining 38 seats are expected to be distributed among smaller NDA allies, including the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLM). Reports suggest that the BJP has offered 25 seats to LJP chief Chirag Paswan, seven seats to HAM leader Jitan Ram Manjhi, and six seats to Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM. Negotiations with Paswan are ongoing, with the LJP seeking preferred constituencies for its leaders. Any increase in LJP’s share could reduce allocations for Manjhi and Kushwaha, though sources say the BJP may offer Rajya Sabha or Legislative Council seats as compensation if required.
The Election Commission of India officially announced the schedule for the Bihar polls on Monday. Voting will take place in two phases — November 6 and November 11 — with results to be declared on November 14. The term of the 243-member Bihar Assembly ends on November 22, making timely elections critical for a smooth transition of power.
Over 7.4 crore voters are eligible to participate, including approximately 14 lakh first-time voters. Phase 1 will cover 121 constituencies in central Bihar, including rural and flood-prone areas, while Phase 2 will cover 122 constituencies, mostly in border regions.
The ruling NDA, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU with BJP support, is aiming to retain power. Meanwhile, the opposition Mahagathbandhan — comprising RJD, Congress, and Left parties — is set to mount a strong challenge. Additionally, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest all 243 seats, marking its debut in Bihar politics.
