The political rivalry in Delhi is intensifying ahead of the 2025 assembly elections, with leaders going all out to target their opponents. On Saturday, BJP candidate Parvesh Verma, contesting from the New Delhi constituency, immersed a cut-out of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal in the Yamuna River.

Verma criticized Kejriwal and his government for failing to fulfill their promise of cleaning the Yamuna, a key issue in Delhi's politics. The cut-out depicted Kejriwal with his hands over his ears and an apology, with a caption that read, "Main fail ho gya, mujhe vote mat dena. Main 2025 tak Yamuna saaf nahi kar paayea" (I have failed. Please don't vote for me. I couldn’t clean the Yamuna River even by 2025).

This stunt comes as Verma faces Kejriwal in a triangular contest, alongside Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit, for the prestigious New Delhi seat. The constituency has become a battleground for both the AAP and BJP.

Earlier, Verma dismissed allegations from AAP regarding an attack on Kejriwal during a public meeting. He accused the Delhi CM of fabricating a "false threat" to divert attention from his failures. Verma claimed that Kejriwal's security was already provided by the Delhi Police, making the alleged "extra protection" unnecessary and part of a political stunt.

Verma further claimed that Kejriwal was attempting to cover up his waning popularity and desperately seeking attention. The Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with the results to be announced on February 8.
