A disturbing incident at Bhuni Toll Plaza in Meerut has triggered widespread anger after a video surfaced showing toll staff brutally assaulting an Indian Army soldier. The viral footage captures the jawan being pinned against a lamp post, thrashed with sticks, punched, and even attacked with a brick.
The victim, identified as Kapil, hails from Gotka village under Sarurpur police station limits. He serves in the Indian Army and is currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir. According to officials, Kapil was on his way back to duty on Sunday night, travelling with a friend towards Delhi via the Karnal Highway, when the altercation occurred.
What began as a dispute over traffic congestion and toll payment quickly escalated into violence. In the video, toll staff can be seen surrounding the soldier, raining blows on him, and dragging him aside, ignoring his uniform and identity as a serviceman.
Senior police officers confirmed that the incident was reported immediately after the video surfaced. “The complainant Kapil, serving in the Army, was attacked by toll employees following a quarrel. A case has been registered, and based on CCTV evidence, four suspects have been arrested,” an official statement said.
The assault triggered tension in the area as local residents and acquaintances of Kapil rushed to the spot, demanding strict action. Additional police forces were deployed to prevent further escalation. Authorities are now working to identify other assailants seen in the viral video.
