New Delhi is on maximum alert as the 77th Republic Day approaches, with authorities rolling out one of the most comprehensive security operations in recent memory. Over 30,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city, including approximately 10,000 officers in the New Delhi district, which encompasses the parade route and other high-security zones, officials confirmed.

Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), Devesh Kumar Mahala, stated, “Our priority is the safety of every participant and visitor. Pickets, barricades, and all standard operating procedures are fully in place along the parade route and adjoining areas.”

To ensure readiness, all personnel have undergone detailed briefings, contingency planning, and rehearsals. The city’s surveillance infrastructure has been upgraded with over 3,000 CCTV cameras, featuring advanced video analytics and Facial Recognition System (FRS) technology. These feeds are continuously monitored in 30 control rooms manned by nearly 150 officers.

Adding a technological edge, ground personnel are equipped with AI-enabled glasses integrated with FRS and video analytics. Mahala explained, “These India-made AI glasses connect in real time to police databases. If a match is found in crowded areas, officers can respond immediately, preventing potential threats.”

The security grid is multi-layered, including multiple levels of barricades, controlled entry points, frisking stations, and strict access restrictions along the parade route. Mobile surveillance vehicles with FRS capabilities have been strategically positioned to enhance monitoring and rapid mobility.

Sniper teams have also been deployed on rooftops across North and Central Delhi to provide an additional layer of security. Route surveys, anti-sabotage checks, and intelligence operations have been conducted in high-footfall areas such as markets, bus terminals, metro and railway stations. Tenant and domestic help verification drives have been intensified as part of the comprehensive security effort.

Interstate coordination meetings with neighboring states have been held to ensure seamless intelligence sharing and preparedness. Officials have urged citizens to strictly follow all security instructions and avoid carrying prohibited items.

Adding a cultural touch, seating enclosures along Kartavya Path have been named after Indian rivers, and visitors are advised to be aware of their designated entry points and approach roads for a smooth and secure experience.
