In a crucial announcement that could significantly impact Maharashtra's agricultural sector, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured farmers on Saturday that the government would purchase cotton and soybean at prices exceeding the minimum support price (MSP) this season. Fadnavis made this promise during a special event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who responded positively to the Deputy CM's request for increased import duties on crude oil to benefit farmers.
Speaking at Swavalambi Maidan in Wardha, where the first anniversary of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme was celebrated, Fadnavis outlined the government?s broader commitment to the agricultural community. His announcement coincided with a noted increase in soybean prices following the Prime Minister's assurance.
Fadnavis emphasized the government's commitment to providing free electricity to farmers, which he described as a critical step toward enhancing agricultural productivity. He also inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the PM Mitra Park in Amravati and launched several skill development initiatives aimed at empowering women and strengthening local economies.
"These initiatives will transform the lives of over 600,000 families in Maharashtra by creating employment opportunities and support systems," Fadnavis stated. He highlighted the importance of women?s empowerment, revealing that eligible women would receive a monthly assistance of Rs 1,500.
Moreover, Fadnavis lauded the PM Vishwakarma Scheme for its focus on micro-entrepreneurs, including blacksmiths, carpenters, potters, and other traditional artisans. He criticized the previous government for neglecting the needs of these communities and reaffirmed that the current initiatives provide essential training and financial support, thereby significantly improving their livelihoods.
As Maharashtra heads into assembly polls, these announcements are seen as part of the BJP's efforts to consolidate its support among the farming community, crucial for electoral success in the region.
