Maharashtra Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced the state’s ambitious vision to significantly boost electric vehicle (EV) adoption over the next decade, aiming for 20–30% of all vehicles in the state to be electric by 2035.

Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Sarnaik highlighted the state government’s proactive approach in promoting sustainable mobility. “We aim that in the next 10 years, about 20–30% of vehicles in our state should be electric. We are working towards this by providing subsidies for many vehicles,” he stated.

To encourage the use of EVs, the government is offering multiple incentives, including toll exemptions. Sarnaik confirmed that toll-free access for electric vehicles is being implemented on key infrastructure routes such as the Samruddhi Expressway, Atal Setu, and various state toll posts.

The state’s policy aligns with the national agenda of reducing carbon emissions and combating urban pollution. With Maharashtra being one of the most vehicle-dense states in India, this push is expected to create a significant impact on both the environment and the EV market.
