The first session of the newly elected Parliament is expected to commence on June 18, a day after the Bakri-Id festival holiday. The session will begin with the oath-taking ceremony for the new members of the Lok Sabha, followed by the President's address to a joint session of both the Houses.
This inaugural session will be brief, focusing primarily on the election of the new Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Andhra Pradesh BJP president Daggubati Purandeswari, 65, is a strong contender for the role. Her candidacy has been endorsed by TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu. Purandeswari is notably the sister-in-law of Naidu and the daughter of TDP founder, the late NT Rama Rao. She transitioned from the Congress to the BJP in 2014.
The exact dates for the session are pending confirmation by President Droupadi Murmu, as there is still a decision to be made on whether the finance bill will be introduced in this session or if a separate session will be scheduled for it, according to FPJ government sources.
The upcoming session marks a significant start for the new Lok Sabha members and sets the stage for important legislative business under the Modi 3.0 government.
