After nearly a day and a half of disruption, flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport began stabilizing on Saturday following a major technical failure that had crippled the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports Air Traffic Control flight planning.
The glitch, which began early Friday, led to a massive ripple effect, disrupting nearly 800 flights in and out of the national capital. By Saturday, the situation showed significant improvement, though some delays persisted. According to the flight-tracking portal Flightradar24, 129 flights were delayed on Saturday — including 53 arrivals and 76 departures. The average delay time was five minutes for arriving flights and about 19 minutes for departing ones, NDTV reported.
In an official statement issued on Saturday morning, the Delhi Airport confirmed gradual restoration of normal operations. “Please note, the technical issue which affected the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), that supports the Air Traffic Control flight planning process, is gradually improving,” the airport said.
It added, “Airline operations at Delhi Airport are returning to normal, and all concerned authorities are working diligently to minimise any inconvenience caused. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their airlines for the latest flight updates.”
Leading carrier IndiGo also assured passengers of assistance and smooth operations resuming soon. “Our on-ground teams remain available to assist you.
