A routine government review meeting in Karnataka’s Bidar district descended into chaos on Monday after two legislators from rival political parties were involved in a fierce verbal confrontation, forcing officials to abruptly halt proceedings.
The incident occurred during a Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting held at the Zilla Panchayat Hall, in the presence of District In-charge Minister Eshwara Khandre. BJP MLA Siddu Patil and Congress MLC Bhimrao Patil locked horns over an alleged forest land encroachment issue linked to the Humnabad constituency.
What began as a heated exchange soon escalated into a shouting match, with both leaders aggressively gesturing at each other. Eyewitnesses said tensions peaked when the Congress MLC moved toward the BJP MLA in an apparent attempt to confront him physically, before police personnel and senior leaders intervened and prevented the situation from worsening.
The dramatic scenes, captured on video, showed officials and security staff rushing to calm the situation as the meeting spiralled out of control. Amid continued verbal sparring and accusations, the district minister was compelled to adjourn the meeting indefinitely.
